During the month of October, schools all across the United States focus on an incredibly important topic, kindness! This focus on kindness has spread throughout the United States with the month of October designated as National Bullying Prevention Month. This message of positivity shines through all elementary schools in a tapestry of ways including musical assembly programs such as The Respect Tour by Coast to Coast School Assembly Programs. Many school districts go even further and designate a specific week in October as The Week of Respect! Observing this week as The Week of Respect gives students and educators an opportunity to focus on kindness, respect, empathy and of course treating others the way we wish to be treated. October is the perfect month for anti-bullying initiatives, as students are just getting into gear for the year and this message of kindness sets the tone for the rest of the school year.
Music has the power to capture students' attention and spark joy, thus making learning more meaningful. As Albert Einstein famously said "It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.” The Respect Tour isn't just a performance, it is an engaging assembly show where students are singing, moving and participating throughout the entire show. While students are participating and experiencing joy, they are also learning lessons about kindness and being an upstander to stand up against bully behavior. Because students are engaged in this high energy show, the messages of kindness stay with students long after the show is over.
Districts host The Respect Tour during The Week of Respect to directly tie their district message and programming to The Week of Respect as well as the National Bullying Prevention Month. The musical and interactive nature of The Respect Tour enables districts to highlight the values within their mission statement and create a respectful school community with a climate of kindness.
